The artist’s idea when painting the work | He wanted to create that electric impulse you feel in a club or dimly lit place when you catch sight of a girl who attracts you. Essentially the sexual impulse to act and win over a partner to enjoy them erotically.

Introduction

“It took my breath away. She wasn’t looking at me. I felt an indescribable energy coursing through me, everything was tingling. I just knew I wanted her for myself. I want her to be mine. I want her close… inside me. My heart was racing, piercing me forcefully. I couldn’t swallow or breathe. I stared obsessively. I walked toward her involuntarily, possessed by impulse. I didn’t even know what I was doing. The lights blinded me, flickering chaotically, distorting her. Everything was in slow motion, only my pulse and heavy breathing could be heard. Everything made sense, even though I knew nothing anymore. When she looked at me, she froze too. She stared at me, forgetting about the friends she was having fun with. I smiled with the corner of my mouth, trying to hold back. She bit her lip. I moved closer… In a whisper, I told her…”

This is the feeling that “Electric Impulse” conveys. It’s that impulsive energy we have when we catch sight of someone we adore, who checks all our boxes, even more, someone we can’t resist, who dispels any anxiety or fear of taking action, who hands control over to the unconscious, and courage becomes merely normal.

The artist’s idea, when painting the work, was to represent the electric impulse we feel when we discover someone who attracts us. Essentially, the sexual impulse to act and win over a partner. The chosen setting is a nightclub, the colors are representative.

Artistic Movement and Working Style

“Electric Impulse” belongs to the abstract expressionism movement. This working style is characterized by spontaneity, rapid execution, and emphasis on expressing emotions and the artist’s inner states.

Ciprian Rotaru uses a variety of techniques such as splashing/dripping, scratching/scraping, and color field to create a vibrant and dynamic composition.

Interpretation of Symbols and Composition

  • The horizontal cross scraped in the red field: Suggests uncertainty, as if between two worlds, where the next choice will determine its position, either raised (on the side of Good) or inverted (on the side of Sin).
  • The red color field: Represents passion and intense desire, evoking sexual energy and momentary impulse.
  • Calculated brushstrokes: Indicate tactical movements, thought out and measured, with emotions kept in check, suggesting apparent control over desires.
  • White splatter: Symbolizes the finality of the sexual act, suggesting reaching a climax of emotion and desire.
  • Contrast of vibrant colors: Reinforces the tension and dynamics between calm and agitation, attraction and restraint.
  • Linear, straight form: Without sudden movements or uncontrolled impulses, suggests a calculated and controlled attraction.

The painting is dominated by strong colors, especially red and blue, contrasting against a dark background. Red is used to symbolize passion, energy, and sexual impulse, while blue evokes calm and mystery. The combination of these colors suggests the duality of human feelings and the complexity of physical attraction.

The abstract forms and strong texture contribute to the sensation of movement and electric energy. The white dots and lines dispersed across the entire surface of the painting are reminiscent of sparks and lightning, reinforcing the concept of electric impulse and immediate attraction.

Associations and Inspirations

Ciprian Rotaru’s painting can be associated with works by abstract expressionist artists such as Jackson Pollock, who used similar techniques to express raw and unfiltered emotions. Additionally, influences from Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko’s works can be observed in the use of vibrant colors and abstract forms.

Evoked Feelings

“Electric Impulse” evokes a feeling of intense and effervescent energy. The viewer can feel the tension and immediate attraction described by the artist. The dynamic composition and strong colors provoke a visceral reaction, inviting the viewer to feel that electric impulse the artist wanted to convey.

Ideal Usage

Due to its energy and intensity, “Electric Impulse” would be ideal for spaces that wish to capture attention and stimulate the senses. Here are some suggestions for rooms and spaces where this work could be displayed:

  • Bedroom: to bring a note of sensuality, creating an intimate and personal atmosphere
  • Living Room: to provide a vibrant focal point and encourage conversations.
  • Office: in a meeting room or executive office, to stimulate creativity and innovative thinking.
  • Hall: in an entrance hall or wide corridor, where it can impress guests immediately upon entering.
  • Entertainment Room: to complement the dynamic and lively atmosphere of a game room or home theater.
  • Guest Room: to bring an element of surprise and visual interest.
  • Commercial Spaces: in a company lounge or waiting room, to create a modern and energizing ambiance.

Conclusion

“Electric Impulse” by Ciprian Rotaru is a powerful and evocative piece of art that captures the complexity and intensity of human attraction through an explosion of colors and forms. It is a work that captures attention and stimulates the senses, making it suitable for a variety of spaces that wish to bring an element of energy and vitality to their decor.

The mastery with which the painting was created, and the symbolism and message it conveys, will ennoble through beauty and knowledge any room in which it will be placed. The owner will involuntarily join the club of patrons who support local culture, and social status will be automatically elevated, simply because fine art is an interest sustained and sought after only by people in the highest positions in society. Investment in such an object, especially when considering the genius and potential of such a rare artist, will not only not depreciate, but the opposite is more than likely

About the Artist

Ciprian Rotaru is a self-taught artist known for his intense dedication, visible not only in his creations but also in his unique journey, marked by trials and returns to art. Currently, Ciprian has only a few works on the market, all being the result of years of perfection and self-discovery. Each painting is carefully selected, and their value is constantly rising.

Artistic Training

Ciprian began painting at an early age at the Regina Maria School of Arts, where he refined his natural talent until the age of 14. After a lengthy break, during which he worked in various fields, he returned to painting in 2014. His works are produced during an intense nocturnal schedule, painting from 9 PM until 4 AM, when silence provides him with the mental space for creation.

Style and Technique

Ciprian employs an expressionist technique combined with idealistic realism, inspired by his favorite artist, Jack Vettriano. He builds his works starting from carefully chosen colors, each shade being a faithful representation of emotions, whether cold or warm. All works go through a long and rigorous process until they are "ready".

Given that the artist has burned numerous paintings over the years, considering them "imperfect," his pieces on the market are few in number, largely due to the intentional destruction of works. His current works are those that have passed his test of exigency.

Theme and Message

In each painting, Ciprian tries to express the essence of human character and the depth of emotions. He believes that "his paintings show what character you can be and what you can offer from your soul," emphasizing the center of interest in each work. Through the contrast between warm and cold tones, his paintings are a constant exploration of inner depth and the tension between reality and ideal.

Influences and Inspirations

Jack Vettriano represents for Ciprian a model of realism transfigured into an ideal of beauty and melancholy. This influence is visible in his ability to give the atmosphere of his paintings a distinct story, each scene offering viewers the possibility to intuit a broader world beyond the subject captured in the work.

Vision for the Future

"The center of interest matters in a painting," says Ciprian, and this will remain his main concern for the future. In his vision, art is not just about perfecting technique, but also about the ability to stir authentic emotions.
