Introduction

The duality of love. The intense and the constant. The temporary or the enduring.

This work is an allegory of the two forms of love that exist.

The first (represented by vibrant red) is like a consuming fire that burns and devours intensely everything in its path. It is the passion born from a spark, which ignites the soul and evokes passionate emotions, but which is not lasting. It is artificial, superficial, loud. It always has an end due to its instability. It is reserved for lovers, or friendships of convenience, it is the one that leaves behind only the ashes of love that scatter in the wind once consumed. It is visible and alive in the eyes of strangers or close ones. It is what ignites and animates our bodies for short periods, until its consumption is total, and nothing can fuel it anymore, leaving only embers.

And the second, permanent, authentic love, which endures and is constant. Which is not strident, which does not demand attention, which exists out of purity, is unconditional and does not erode the body or soul, does not consume intensely, but just smolders steadily and with certainty. It is the love that a parent has for a child, a pet for its master, or a friend for another soul friend. It is the love that only death can stop. That is why it is represented in white, inclusive of the entire spectrum of colors, and through the way it has been blurred, is invisible and hard to observe, because it does not consume or demand attention, it simply exists outside of spectators.

Andreea has masterfully captured this duality of love. She has used an apparently simple chromatic palette, yet through the very delicacy of the different shades manages to evoke complex feelings without visually overwhelming the viewer. On the contrary, all lines are carefully selected and designed to convey through the minimum possible all these complex ideas that often govern people’s lives. As this work uses the Creator’s method to represent reality. Simple and complex at the same time, leaving the viewer the chance to decipher the puzzle pieces left by the artist. To assemble the numerous symbols and reveal the mystery that every viewer feels in their heart when first viewing this piece. It is the duty of the intellect to catch up with emotional instinct and discover the hidden secrets of love.

Symbols such as: the gaze reoriented from the body, closed eyes, partial makeup, dual and magnificent hat, elegant attire, intense red color and adjacent spectrum of colors, blurred white color in the background, sensation of movement and stability, pale face merging with the background, female character as a portrayal of love, and many others, contribute to the cohesion and congruence of the image, managing to subtly highlight and represent the two primordial loves that exist, in a mysterious duality that dominates and guides every person’s life.

Interpretation of Symbols

Symbols:

  • Closed eyes: Suggests a state of lucid dreaming, a withdrawal into the inner world. This indicates a search for personal essence, undistracted by the exterior.
  • Pale, colorless face: Represents a partial depersonalization, perhaps a renunciation of external world influences in favor of an internal focus; possibly refers to authentic love which needs occasional artifice to make itself known;
  • Intense makeup on one side of the face: Is symbolic of the mask we wear in society, a symbol of presented identity versus real identity.
  • Blurred background: Pushes the idea that the external world is vague and unimportant compared to inner reality; at the same time, the chromatic similarity with the real face, beneath the mask, suggests that authentic love governs reality;
  • Visual disintegration: This conveys the ephemerality of emotions and thoughts, indicating continuous movement and internal changes.
  • Magnificent hat and red color: Draws attention to the character and represents power and self-confidence. The red color, strident, symbolizes passion and emotional force, intense love that consumes;
  • Head turned to one side: This suggests a detachment from something, a reorientation of attention towards an internal plane.
  • Double aura: Represents both self-love and love for others, both coexisting harmoniously.
  • Static and dynamic: This juxtaposition highlights the balance between inner peace and external changes.
  • Contoured character: Shows weight and materialization; despite the impalpable symbols, the character anchors us to reality, and the expressiveness, attire, and state transmitted by the character, make the image real, despite all the esoteric symbols, which exist but escape our senses;

Evoked Feelings

The painting evokes a wide range of intense emotions: elegance, sensuality, delicacy, intimacy, and passion. It emanates a fragile but strong femininity, a state of inner calm and profound emotional intensity.

Ideal Usage

This work is ideal for rooms that require a sophisticated and calm atmosphere, such as:

  • Modern living room or bedroom – where it accentuates the sensuality and femininity of the space.
  • Entrance hall or waiting room – offering a welcoming and refined atmosphere.
  • Corporate office or conference room – to inspire creativity and introspection.
  • Villa, house, penthouse – bringing an air of refinement and personal introspection.

Color Analysis

Total Colors: Fuchsia, Bonbon Pink, Purple, Plum, Nymph’s Thigh, Red-Violet, Orchid, Mauve, Red Currant, Strawberry, Crushed Strawberry, Carmine, Cherry, Pink, Wine Lees, Vivid Fire, Heliotrope, Arsenic, Maduro, Greige, Mandarin, Red Ochre, Reddish White, Incarnadine Pink

Color Significance:

  • Fuchsia, purple, and red-violet: Convey passion, vitality, and feminine energy. This vibrant palette creates a warm and dynamic atmosphere.
  • Pink and plum shades: Evoke tenderness and delicacy, underlining feelings of love and femininity.
  • Reddish white and greige: Add balance and visual calm, allowing the bright colors to shine even more. Together, these colors build an affective atmosphere, stimulating a feeling of admiration and fascination.

Artistic Movement

The work belongs to contemporary figurative art, with influences from expressionism, through the emphasis on vibrant colors and facial expressiveness. Female figures and the theme of introspection are classic elements from this movement, while having modernist accents in the approach.

Working Style

  • Technique: Layering, Glazing, Brushwork, Diffused Light, Blurring, Gestural, Calculated Strokes, Synthesis, Blending
  • Materials: Mixed Media (Acrylic and Oil) on Cotton Canvas

Andreea uses a technique of layering and glazing, which adds depth and texture. The brushwork and blurring create diffused light and a sense of diaphanous movement. These techniques allow a synthesis between detail and gesture, giving the painting a supernatural sensation.

Composition

Academic Classification: Genre Art, Portrait, Abstract Art

  • Subject: Is a woman in an introspective state, a symbol of love and self-awareness.
  • Arrangement of elements: Asymmetric, emphasizing the head and facial expression, while the body is partially hidden.
  • Balance: Asymmetric, with the focal point on the face and accessories, drawing attention to the upper part of the painting.
  • Proportion and scale: The female figure is central and harmoniously proportioned, the oversized hat accentuating expressiveness.
  • Focal point: The face, especially the closed eyes and head accessories, which define the theme of the work.
  • Line and form: The curved and formal lines of the body contrast with the blurred background, creating a visual rhythm.
  • Color and contrast: Warm colors contrast with the pale background, amplifying the work’s energy.
  • Space and depth: The blurred background adds depth, creating a distance between the character and the external world.
  • Rhythm and landmarks: The landmarks are given by the hat line and facial expression, which guide the spectator’s gaze.

Associations and Inspirations

The work can be associated with influences from modern expressionism, reminiscent of Gustav Klimt through attention to ornamental details and intense palette. Similarly, the face structure and deeply affective rendering are similar to Egon Schiele’s works.

Conclusion

Finally, the mastery with which the artwork “Love State” was created by artist Andreea Apavaloaei, which allegorically captures both main forms of love, reminds us of how the two differ, which can induce us into an introspective state, especially now that we have the necessary means to discern what is authentic from what is superficial.

Because the painting is a symbol that invites contemplation, it creates an atmosphere of subtle refinement through its almost universally relevant subject and can encourage deep conversations, especially if placed in an area exposed to curious eyes, such as a modern living room, conference room, or company waiting room.

The future owner of this piece will become a Cultural Patron who supports and promotes local values. It is a title that few people carry, but which is highly appreciated in society.

This piece complements any refined space in which considerable investment has been made, being complementary to modern luxurious decors, which often impress through simplicity and minimalism, but do not stimulate the senses.

In most decorations, walls remain the most neglected, despite being the focal points that can elevate a room and can impress any guest through a carefully chosen piece.

And this happens because the selected painting represents the owner and honors them in front of others.

Because paintings are some of the few decorations that highlight the deep thoughts and emotions that an owner has and which, normally, must be made known through long conversations.

A well-chosen painting can do this in a few minutes.

And it can continue this task for a lifetime, even more than that, when we remember that this precious good is passed on to descendants.

And with time, the value of such an object inevitably increases.

For it is a unique and inimitable piece that is in the possession of only one person, its rightful owner.

Therefore, if you feel that the artwork “Love State” is suitable for you or that it conveys to you and others the feelings with which you identify, do not hesitate to call us to reserve it.

With an artistic career spanning nearly three decades, Andreea Apăvăloaei has become a well-known name in both Romanian and International art scenes. Her works, recognized for their vibrant expressiveness and distinct elegance, can be found in private and public collections throughout Romania and Europe. Over 900 active pieces on the market bear Andreea Apăvăloaei's signature, an undeniable number that confirms her artistic talent and competence. Among her notable exhibitions are those at the National Museum of Archaeology in Bucharest, Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart, and Bath University - Bornemounth in England. One of her significant achievements was a successful collaboration with a pharmaceutical company, for which she created a series of 500 works dedicated to medical professionals, a large-scale project that reflects the public's appreciation for her unique works.

Artistic Training

Andreea began her artistic training at the "Victor Brauner" Art High School in Piatra-Neamț. She then continued her studies at the National University of Arts Bucharest, where she obtained a master's degree in Visual Arts. She started painting at an early age, and her professional journey has been enriched by the influences of numerous masters. However, the greatest contribution to the formation of her style, considered by connoisseurs as "refined, clean, and distinctly elegant," is her own assiduous dedication. Through this self-taught and purely intuitive process, coupled with formal training, Andreea has perfected her unique and unmistakable technique.

Style and Technique

Andreea is recognized for her use of layering and gesturalism techniques, which give her paintings a sense of movement and emotional depth. Her works are a balance of color and texture, with subtle glazing providing a note of elegance and refinement. Over the years, the artist has integrated mosaic elements and diaphanous foils to add a unique tactile and visual dimension to her compositions.

Themes and Work Periods

Andreea's themes focus on the idea of beauty, joy, and positive emotions. Through each work, the artist aims to bring a splash of color and an element of energy into a space, a beacon of visual exuberance that resonates with the viewer's emotional states. Andreea defines painting as "active meditation," where each brushstroke is an expression of inner searching and a subtle connection with the world.

Influences and Inspirations

Andreea feels inspired by the simplicity and essence of Grigorescu's style, as well as the force and spontaneity of the expressionist movement. These influences are reflected in the simplicity of her compositions and in the energetic color palette she uses, shaping an aesthetic that unites traditional elegance with modern expressiveness.

Vision for the Future

For Andreea, art is "like water, pure and nourishing to the spirit." She will continue to create works that inspire, bring joy, and enrich the lives of viewers. In her words:

"People aren't looking for a thing, an object. Often, they don't even know what they're looking for. 'I want a splash of color,' most of my clients say. In fact, they want a splash of color in their lives, then in their homes. Something positive, something that vibrates there, an exuberant, vivacious emotional landmark."
